Payday Super: New employee first contribution window

For new employees, how long after their first payday do employers have to ensure their super fund receives the first SG contribution?

20 business days,  a longer window than the standard 7, and it exists for good reason.

When a new employee starts, there are a few things that need to happen before their first super contribution can be processed successfully. They need to nominate a fund, that fund needs to be verified, and their details need to be confirmed as accurate. The 20-business-day window for a new employee's first contribution gives employers time to get all of that right.

After that first contribution, the standard 7-business-day rule applies to every subsequent pay run.

The key takeaway: use that 20-day window deliberately. Don't wait until day 18 to start the process. Get the employee's super fund details confirmed early in onboarding, run a Member Verification Request (more on that below), and make sure their first contribution is set up and ready to go, ideally processed well within the window so you're not racing a deadline.

Microkeeper's onboarding tools capture super fund details as part of the employee setup, so nothing gets missed.
